One More Reason to Push Continuing Ed

In just a few short years, post-secondary education will be needed for many Arizona jobs.

We already know the importance of continuing education. But now we know just how important it may be in the (not-too-distant) future. According to a report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, more than half of state jobs will require post-secondary education by 2020.

And while it’s not uncommon to hear negative statistics in the news about students’ preparedness for state universities, there are some encouraging updates.

According to the Arizona Board of Regents, the academic preparation of the incoming 2013-14 university freshmen class was better than in previous years. Approximately 83 percent were admitted without academic deficiencies compared to 82 percent in fall 2012 and 80 percent in fall 2011.

The board says this change may be, in part, the result of the increase in state graduation requirements for the class of 2013.
