The Arizona K12 Center’s Professional Learning Plan is designed to support educators, as they explore areas of professional passion and practice. This two and a half day training will not only reconnect participants with the why of what they do, but it will also provide the tools needed to conduct personalized inquiry cycles, engage with other professionals committed to their practice, and the materials needed to determine the correlation between professional learning and its impact on student growth.

Over the course of the three learning sessions, participants will have the opportunity to identify a goal, establish a personal focus for learning, create a plan and action steps to facilitate learning, collect data based on new learning, and reflect on effectiveness. These sessions will help participants identify the knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary for professional growth and will help identify was in which individualized goals align with system initiatives, the needs of educators, and the needs of students.

The Professional Learning Plan Toolkit will offer increased accountability, while drawing on natural curiosities, which encourages direct transfer to the classroom and an enhancement of teaching and learning environments. This training will also guide school- or district-wide implementation by creating space for individualized goal setting, establishing norms and protocols for meetings, as well as prompt reflections throughout the professional learning inquiry cycle.

The reflective component of the Professional Learning Plan will guide educators through a practice-based inquiry process. Participants will cultivate learning by gathering evidence and reflecting on how their learning impacts students. The Reflective Tool is a place to document learning throughout the inquiry cycle and can be used in conjunction with other documentation tools to demonstrate commitment to students and their learning, providing evidence of systematic thinking and reflection, and signifying an active role in a learning community. The Professional Learning Plan Toolkit will help build capacity in all educators at all points of the professional continuum.

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of what you need to know and be able to do as an educator to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Build a community of professionals engaging in autonomous, self-directed learning aligned to school/district initiatives.
  • Reconnect with and explore what drives your professional passion and inspires you to stay committed to education.
  • Reflect on and draw connections between professional learning and student learning.
