Mathematical understanding influences decision making in all areas of life. Mathematical learning is dependent on applying skills, finding connections, and making new discoveries. Join us for two, 2-day sessions that are designed to give teachers the necessary skills to create rich mathematical tasks with multiple entry points and solution pathways. By the conclusion of these sessions, each participant will have created a group-worthy task that focuses on math discourse and will fit the needs of all students in your classroom. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your students’ mathematical learning!

In this hands-on workshop, each session will center on developing knowledge and skills to design group-worthy tasks, improve basic problems to make them effective learning agents, examine effective ways to motivate students to engage in rich discourse, and utilize a rubric to analyze the impact of a gold standard math task.

Days 1 and 2:  Designing Groupworthy Tasks and Mathematical Discourse

Days 3 and 4:  Collaborative Learning Through Rubric Analysis

Participants will:

  • Develop contextual mathematical situations.
  • Develop skills to promote deeper mathematical learning through group-worthy tasks.
  • Support student investigations of mathematics.
  • Structure student development as mathematicians through discourse.
  • Design a lesson plan and rubric of a group-worthy tasks.
Additional Information:

Registration includes training materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and the book, Smarter Together! Collaboration and Equity in the Elementary Math Classroom.
