The Arizona K12 Center’s Professional Learning Plan is designed to support educators, as they explore innovative strategies and approaches, stay current with best practices, and become the teacher leaders our learning communities need. This training will not only reconnect and ignite your desire to explore areas of professional passion, but also it will provide you with the tools to conduct personalized inquiry cycles, opportunities to engage with other professionals committed to their practice, and the materials needed to determine the correlation between your professional learning and its impact on student achievement.

Over the course of the three learning sessions, participants will have the opportunity to identify a goal, establish a personal focus for learning, create a plan and action steps to facilitate learning, collect data based on new learning, and reflect on effectiveness. These sessions will be centered in the Architecture of Professional Learning and will anchor as you align goals with the needs of students and staff.

As a school or district looking to implement the Professional Learning Plan, many find this to be a way to build capacity in all educators along all points of the professional continuum. The Professional Learning Plan will offer increased accountability, while drawing on natural curiosities, which encourages direct transfer and correlation to the classroom and an increase in student learning. Furthermore, there is an emphasis on embedding individual and collective learning through problem solving, which will engage educators through increased and focused professional purpose. This training will also guide school- or district-wide implementation by exploring commitments to cultivation of learning communities and integrating calendaring, constructive conversations, personal contact to celebrate progress and assist with challenges, and responsiveness based on innovations and outcomes.

By focusing professional learning around the complexities of essential knowledge, critical dispositions, and performance, educators will experience improved performance that impacts student learning. The reflective component of the Professional Learning Plan will guide educators through a practice-based inquiry process. Participants will cultivate learning by gathering evidence and reflecting on how their learning impacts students. The Reflective Tool is a place to document learning throughout the inquiry cycle and can be used in conjunction with other documentation tools to demonstrate commitment to students and their learning, providing evidence of systematic thinking and reflection, and signifying an active role in a learning community.

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of what you need to know and be able to do as an educator to support students’ needs and learning.
  • Explore what you can do to help students learn best.
  • Build a community of professionals engaging in autonomous, self-directed learning.
  • Reconnect with and explore what drives your professional passion and inspires you to stay committed to education.
