Mentor Forums provide mentors with a venue to develop their skills and understanding of adult learning, which is a key component of professional development. Forums provide a professional learning environment where mentors can reflect on their own practice with support from colleagues.
This Practice Brief offers ideas about how to support mentor development through Mentor Forums with a series of strategies, including forum design and the presentation of a real-life case study of Mentor Forums.
Each Mentor Forum is uniquely designed and tailored to provide current research and relevant topics, which are directly related to the practice of mentoring. These forums provide an opportunity for participants to enter in problem-solving conversations.
- Practice the initial co-assessment process using selected InTASC standards and the Continuum of Mentoring Practice.
- Learn, review, and complete protocols for the Professional Learning Plan.
- Reflect on the year’s progress and set next steps for individual learning.
Please note that this training takes place during three, 1-day sessions. The August 16th session will take place at the Arizona K12 Center Professional Learning Center (99 E. Virginia Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85004) and will include lunch and snacks.
